Caps. International Style.

My Daddy sure is having fun with his friends. I like them too. They all play with me and let me watch cartoons. He took them skiing today and they're going to Paris tomorrow. After I went to bed, they threw some caps into cups and yelled a lot. Good thing I was asleep and didn't hear it...I bet they weren't saying nice words all of the time. Things with me are going well! School is going great and Mommy may take me swimming tomorrow. ~Katherine

You've Got Mail

I was SO happy to get a package from Grandma Vicki yesterday. She sent some new clothes, new books, St. Paddy's day stuff and some new movies. And THEN today I got a package from Tara filled with cool stickers and mac n' cheese! I LOVE to get mail. It really made my day. I got to go to school yesterday while mommy had her spa day from daddy. She liked it, but I don't understand why she gets to get wrapped up in mud, but I get yelled at for playing in it. It was very relaxing for her and I think she'll want to go back again. I ate lunch at school and had veal and rice. When mommy came to pick me up I had a pacifier in my mouth and a diaper on! Mommy let it go, but was not happy! Daddy's friends fly in tomorrow. I think he will have lots of fun with them. I am excited to have some company around. Have a good weekend! ~Katherine

Laughter is the Same in any Language

Hi. Things are really busy around Grenoble. The local kids are off on their two-week school vacation. They get one every 6 weeks, but go to school until July and start back in late August. Our road is busy with people going skiing. The stores, parks and everywhere is full of kids! It was a nice sunny day today, so we went to the park. I rode the carousel, played on the toys and for the first time, mommy and I tried the push-pedal horse carriages that we can take around the park. I rode up on top of the horse while she did all the work. There were some really nice French girls on the playground. We had so much fun playing and laughing together. Mommy was so surprised to hear me use French for the first time without being asked. I told them "vite" for faster on the merry-go-round and "arret" for stop when I was done. I also said "viens friends" which was franglish for "come here friends". Mommy didn't know I could do that! Goes to show you don't have to speak the same language to get along. Now if only the rest of the world could figure out what a two-year old learned on the playground. Of course, mommy forgot her camera, so here are some random pictures from this week. Have a good one!

Oh How Time Flies...

We went for a nice little hike down to the village today. It was muddy, but warm enough to get out. We picked up some bread and stopped at the playground. Here are some pics of me on a hike two years ago and then one from now. We had a nice day and now I'm taking a rest. We had a pretty quiet weekend, which is good since when Daddy's friends get here next weekend, nothing will be quiet!

Zee Robots are Coming

Well, my robot fascination is still strong. They made a big cardboard robot at school this week. Mommy thought she could make a better one, so we used up all the duct tape and foil in the house to create the BIGGEST, BADDEST, robot ever! Isn't he great. I helped with it all and wanted to take him to bed with me. I was still being quite the ham last night, so here is some more video of me. Enjoy! (You may have to refresh your page).

I'm off to take nap. Daddy and I are going to the Baker's tonight to babysit. Mommy and Stef are going to a wine and cheese tasting at HP.

I Eat an Ice Cream Bone

Well, actually it is a cone, but when I say it, it sounds like "bone". I was really excited to see the frozen food delivery guy show up today and bring some ice cream. I had a great day at school. I played in the sand and rode a bike...both inside, how cool is that?! Mommy finally put some new video on the website. You can view it HERE. It is 6MB and may take a minute to download. Post a comment here if it doesn't work. Daddy has some really nice software for making movies and hopefully mommy can do this more often. This video was taken before the ice cream, so sugar was not a factor. Here are a couple pics from yesterday and then one from today. We had a nice Valentine's day, the chocolate cheesecake I helped make was great! Mommy has a chocolate hangover. Daddy scheduled her a spa package for next Friday, so she's pretty excited for that. Have a good Wednesday! ~Katherine

Happy Valentine's Day

Hope you are all having a good one! Mommy and daddy gave me this new ring and some sticky Dora earrings. Mom and I went to the park and then made a cheesecake & lasagna for tonight. I made a card for daddy and I'll give that to him when he gets home. I handed out my cards to all my classmates yesterday and I think they really liked them. Valentine's day is for the adults only here, but the kids still thought the cards were neat. Hope you are having a very special day.

Not Snow-Much Fun.

Hi. I had a bummer of a morning today. We tried to go sledding at Chamrousse. On my first solo-run, I pulled the brake and flipped myself, face first! I sucked it up and was ready to try again. The second time, Daddy was putting me in the sled and out of nowhere, two kids came flying up from behind and took Daddy out at the knees! He fell down and good thing he was there, or I would've been toast! I was pretty upset after that and we had to go home. We tried one more time, but I cried the whole way. We need some snow at our house so I can sled here. It was really busy today at the resort. Last night, I spent the night at Gabi's house. We had lots of fun and I had pancakes for breakfast. Mommy and Daddy had a nice time at the CAT dinner.

Swiper Gets Hurt

This is what happens when three kids take over our house. Swiper pays the price. I don't know if super-glue can fix this one. It was pretty traumatic for everyone. Our thoughts are with him.

F-R-I-D-A-Y

Hi. Mom's been really bad at taking photos lately. She's had plenty of opportunites, but she's a little forgetful. So I had a great day. We started off with a playgroup this morning. One boy spoke only French and Dutch, the other spoke French and the "Queen's English", and then there was me. It was fun to watch those silly boys fight over trucks and balls while I played by myself. I had a good time and liked being the only girl, even if they couldn't understand me all of the time. Later, Ben & Gabi came over for dinner and fun. We literally tore the house apart and played till we fell over. I made Valentine's cards last night to hand out to my friends (thx for the cool threads aunt Debbie!, I love my sparkle pants). I'll probably take some to school on Monday. I think we may go sledding tomorrow. Mommy and daddy have a fancy dinner to go to at the Chateau Commanderie, so I am spending the night at Ben and Gabi's...hooray! Bon weekend a tous! ~Katherine

Feelin' Sweet Again

Hi! I'm feeling much better today. I went to school and had a really great day. Afterwards, we went to lunch with Gabi and her mommy. I had a nice time with Gabi, we both ate hot dogs and fries, what a treat. Mommy got some shopping done while I was at school. Later, we took a few pictures by the window I decorated. Mommy will be sending them out as Valentine's Cards. Hopefully they will get there by next Tuesday. See you later! ~Katherine

Not Again!

Well, I got sick...again! I was supposed to go to school yesterday and then go see the Olympic Flame, but I ended up with an ear infection and had to miss both! I did cheer up for a little bit when I received a package from Nana Vicki. She let me open my Valentine's present early. She sent me some new coloring books and some Blue's Clues tatoos. I thought those were pretty neat. I am feeling better today and hopefully I can go to school tomorrow! I know both me and mommy are sick of being cooped up in the house lately! ~Katherine

Fun-day Sunday

Hi Everyone! I hope you had a fun weekend, just like me! I was hoping to go sledding again today, but it was too cold. Tomorrow, we are supposed to go watch the Olympic Flame go through Grenoble. Mommy and daddy are staying up late tonight to watch the Superbowl, so I'm not holding my breath! I wonder which one of them will have to take me to school in the morning? All this fuss over a really big, super-sized bowl? I wonder what is in it that is so great? Here's what I did today....

Made a frogger thingy from a bottle

Got a little sassy about it

Was feelin' superfly in my new jammies
(but I still insisted on pants with the nightgown)

Spent some QT with my mommy

Great Day for a Playdate

Hi. I had fun yesterday at my friend Addie's house. I hadn't seen her in nearly two months. In that time, her hair got shorter and mine got longer! We had fun playing with this ball-machine that blew out a bunch of air. It was fun to pretend we were drying our hair. Her little brother, Adam, is 3months old now and sure is cute. Today, daddy took me up to the ski-resort for sledding. Unfortunately, the camera battery died and I have no pictures to share. But I can tell you that I had fun and can't wait to go again. Have a great weekend everyone!

And the Winner Is....

No one! I stumped you all. That was a good one. Here are the explanations for each choice. Guess I am feasting on tripes for awhile since no one won.

There are over 600 types of French cheeses -- True. They all stink and taste like the inside of a shoe. But you do acquire a taste for them. Did you know Roquefort cheese MUST be made only in the moldy caves of the Roquefort region?

Vasectomies were illegal in France until 2001 -- True. Not just vasectomies, but tubal ligations and all types of sterilization. It goes back to an old law from Napoleon's time that prohibited self-mutilation. Men here were going to the UK for their nips and snips until 2001.

It is illegal to fly an American (or any other) flag in France -- FALSE! I could see where this could be tricky since we all think they hate our guts. It is not illegal, but don't be surprised if your house gets broken into or your gate gets a dose of graffiti. Flag flying here isn't a big thing unless it is at a political office. No giant French flags flying here like back home with those gianormous ones that fly over Perkins.

The French have 5 weeks of paid vacation a year -- True. And yet they still find so many reasons to strike. Maybe the 35 hour work week and retirement age of 60 really is too strict.

70% of all music on the radio must be by French composers -- True. Between the hours of 8am and 8pm, 70% of music played on the radio must be by French composers. And that is why we have a CD player in our car. French rappers leave much to be desired (do they even KNOW what east coast/west coast is, or a glock for that matter??). Thank goodnes Celine Dion is French-Canadian.

The term "mayday" was invented by the French -- True. Does that really surprise you? Mayday comes from the French word for help..."m'aidez". Suprisingly, the phrases"I surrender" and "I give up, please don't beat me with that wienerschnitzel Mr. Hitler", do NOT come from the French language.

It used to be illegal to sell ET dolls in France (phone home!) -- True. There used to be a law that prohibited the selling of a doll without a human face. I can't find the exact law code, but know it to be true. I suppose that would apply to tellytubbies and furbies as well.

Fois Gras is actually made of 75% geese or duck liver -- True. It is so full of fat and cholesterol it is the equivilant of eating a double bacon cheeseburger, or worse. It tastes like poo if you ask me, but I have only had the cheap stuff. I guess you need a cultured palate.

The French tend to be stinky -- True. Now, I know that seems like a really low-blow, but it is the truth. B.O. is more common here and that's just the way it is, just like Americans tend to be obese. No offense intended, I just call it like I smell it.

Men must wear speedos in public swim areas -- Not just sad, but true. Fortunately, they can wear "speedo trunks", which are the equivilant of boxer briefs...although most French men like to wear the originals. They are very concerned about hygiene in public pools and as Alan says, they want to keep "the junk contained". Now I know what ya'll are thinking "Alan swims...does he own a pair?". And the answer is yes, they are gray and blue. And if you pay him enough, he just may model them for you.

Well that was fun and educational. If I think up some more questions, this may become a regular feature. For any of our French friends (or ex-friends), please know this was all in good humor.

disclaimer **No French were harmed in the making of this poll.**

Only in France...

Ground beef got you down? Tired of fighting with your kids to eat their pile of crappy French beef? Well, your local hypermarket may have the answer for you. Mickey Mouse shaped ground beef patties are all the rage, and they are buy 2, get the third free right now! A little Disney magic goes a long way. Just remember, no one promised you that is wasn't mouse meat....even if it does taste better than French beef.

Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto!!

For the past three days at lunch time, I've been a little persistent about robots. Each day, I say "Mommy, I saw two robots, watch out....get up, get up!" Just at lunch, never do I speak about these robots during the day. When asked, I reply that they are blue. Mommy can't figure out where this is coming from. I had cottage cheese the last three days, maybe it has gone bad. I'll just keep her guessing. Grandma D got a robot vaccuum cleaner for Christmas, maybe I am thinking of that??? ~Katherine
