Lucky Number 7

Here I am, a seven year old! Boy where does the time go!?! Seven is going to a be a great year for me. We had fun looking back on my 6 year old days and remembering what a great year it was.

I had a great birthday weekend. Some of my family came down to visit on Saturday. We hung out, had some cake and played. I was grateful that everyone made the long trip to spend time with me. On Sunday, we had my friend party. Mom was a little nervous about having eight 7 year old girls here, but everything went well. We painted dinosaur eggs, played on the waterslide, had a dinosaur egg hunt and of course ate some cake. My cake was once again amazing. This year, our friend Susan made a dinosaur dig site cake. We all took turns brushing away the graham cracker "dirt" and finding the dino skeleton on the cake. It was so cool! We opened gifts and handed out goody bags to my friends. We finished off the day with my birthday dinner. I wanted Texas Roadhouse this year. I was super-excited to sit in the saddle and have the whole restaurant cheer for me. It was a fun and perfect weekend!

Now that the parties are over, it's back to school I go. School has been going well. Things are pretty intense in the 2nd grade. We have reading and math logs for each month, fancy assignment books and lots more responsibility than 1st grade. So far, I've been keeping up just fine and coming home happy every day. I've been waking up at night a lot though and not able to fall back to sleep. We think it's a combination of school, a cold and Dad being gone all last week. Hopefully this week will be better -- it's been 7 straight nights now and it's really starting to catch up with all of us!

I've got soccer and piano going on this week. Our team has been doing well and I really enjoy playing even if our strategy isn't as optimal as the coach would like ;)

Thanks to everyone for the super birthday wishes. I am one lucky little girl!

Love
Katherine

I Have a Locker!?!

Before I recount my fabulous weekend, let me start with today. Today was probably the best last day of summer break EVER! Dad surprised us with donuts for breakfast. We started off with a trip to Zach's school to drop off some papers. He was so happy to be there, he jumped right in the playroom and started playing. That made Mom and I so proud and happy for him. After that, we went to the Zoo and then off to do a couple errands. We were pretty exhausted after that, so Mom let us watch a movie and then turn on the Wii for the first time this summer. Zach and I played Raving Rabids and giggled ourselves silly. Then it was time to meet my teacher. I really, really like her and love my new classroom. It is so grown up! I have a really cool desk and a LOCKER! Mom about fell over. I put my belongings away and starting thinking of some cool ways to decorate it. We just happened to get home right as the ice cream truck was pulling up, score! Then, Dad came home and we had our traditional day before school IHOP meal. We went for a family walk, took a bath and then read a nice book. It was THE perfect day :)

Our weekend was also a great way to end summer break. We were dropped off at Grandma D's on Wednesday where we indulged in 2.5 days of treats, TV, time with Grandma and Grandpa and tractor rides. Mom and Dad picked us up on Saturday then we headed to WI to visit with Uncle Adam. I had a great time playing with all my family and picking on them as well. We drove back late Sunday afternoon and caught up on some rest, I really missed my bed and toys.

So, tomorrow I will be a 2nd grader, wow! Mom is a little sad about it and Zach will definitely miss me tons. We have a half day tomorrow and then early release all week. Should be a good way to ease into the school year.

Ciao for now!

Hanging on to Summer

Hi there. Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. We keep thinking to do it, but then we forget. So backing up to last weekend, we made a last minute trip to a graduation party in Chicago. You would never know it was a college party though....there was a bouncy house, cotton candy machine and lots and lots of treats. We all had a nice time meeting some relatives I've never seen before and it was a beautiful day. After the party, Zach and I went home with Grandma D and Mom and Dad stayed in the area for the night. The went to a great French restaurant in Chicago. They said it was hands-down the best meal they've had in over 4 years. Boy, 3.5 hours in a restaurant with French food doesn't sound like fun to me! They spent the night and got massages the next day. Those two are so silly.

This week we were trying to cram in all the activities on our to do list that did not get done yet. We went to 2 new parks, found 2 letterboxes, had a waterslide party at our house with all our neighborhood friends, went to a water park nearby and then got school supplies on Friday. Mom didn't consider school supplies as a fun thing, but I sure did. I loved going up and down the aisles with my list, checking things off. Zach got a folder just so he could get ready for school, too. I had my first soccer practice on Thursday and it was fun. My coach is nice and Dad may even be assistant coach this year, time to teach him about soccer! We're probably going to a baseball game tonight and then maybe back to the water park tomorrow. I was a little disappointed the other day that we had to stay in the "baby" area for Zach, so Mom said she'd take me back to do the waterslides and stuff some other time.

My class list came out yesterday. I don't know much about my teacher, but I'm sure like all teachers at our school, she will be great. I have 4 kids in my class from last year as well as some playground friends I remember. I'm very excited and ready for school. Only 10 days to go! Mom is definitely not looking forward to it, I think she's going to miss sleeping in. Zach is going to really miss his playmate, but hopefully we'll all adjust well.

That's all for now. Hope you're all enjoying these last few weeks of summer!

K.

bouncy houses really can fall down, poor Zach!
