Dozin' With Dinos

I'm not talking about my stuffed animals! I am talking about the REAL thing! Ok, not REAL dinosaurs, but real skeletons of dinosaurs. Last night was the night I have been waiting three years for! You see, to be able to go on an overnight at the Field Museum, you have to be 6 years old. So, Mom booked the first overnight that fell after my sixth birthday. Dad and I had a blast! We headed to Chicago after lunch yesterday. We got to the museum around 6 -- after a pit stop at Soldier Field and the Bears' gift shop, of course! After orientation, we listened to some speakers, did some workshops and then went to see Dinosaurs Alive in 3D. My favorite part was the flashlight tour through Ancient Egypt. It was super spooky! I was also very happy that we got there early enough to score my sleeping spot -- right next to the Triceratops. I also got to meet some cool kids, hold a tarantula, wrap a mummy and listen to bedtime stories under Sue. It was a perfect night. The lights went out at 1a.m. and Dad said my eyes shut as soon as my head hit the pillow. Dad didn't sleep too well, but he had lots of fun. I was very appreciative of my early Christmas present.

We had a nice Thanksgiving as well. Nana, Papa, Tara and Cody came to visit. Dad tried to deep fry the turkey this year. It went pretty well except it wasn't cooked all the way through, so we had to finish it off in the oven. I had fun playing with everyone and making stellar table decorations with Tara.

Mom and Zach had a nice time alone last night. Mom took him to the video store and he picked out a Thomas movie. They ate popcorn, put up the Christmas tree and decorations and stayed up really late.

We're hoping to go to the festival of lights parade tonight, as long as we're not too tired!

Here are some pics from the past few days.

Ta ta for now.

Slow News Week

Boy oh boy has it been slow around here! Slow is good sometimes, but it doesn't make for very exciting blogging. Let's see ... last week Mom went on a field trip with my class to the Museum. It was nice to have her there. We learned about weather, stars and light. Then we went to WI for the weekend. First we picked up Zach, he had been farming with Dad all day Friday and Saturday morning. We didn't do much of anything exciting up there, but it was nice to see Nana and Papa and take a break from the farm.

Have I told you I'm taking piano lessons? I have had four of them now and it is going really well! I can already play Old McDonald with BOTH hands playing at the same time. I'm looking forward to working on some Christmas tunes to play this year.

The rainy weather has been a bummer this week for Mom and Zach. He is getting a little stir crazy and unfortunately, it is a sign of the winter ahead. Mom really needs to get him in a tumbling class or something just to entertain and exhaust him.

Dad went to go pick corn again today and won't be back until Sunday. We're hoping to get the Christmas lights up on the house if the weather is nice, but we won't turn them on just yet. Mom is trying to figure out what to do with Zach and I all weekend. I bet there will be lots of playdoh and painting involved!

Have a good weekend!

Oh my, that's a lot of spankings

Hi there. We had a fun little weekend on the farm. We all spent a lot of family time in the combine -- nothing broke down and they got a lot done. On Sunday, we met up with Nana and Aunt Corrie for a quick lunch and some shopping. I practiced riding a bike at Grandma D's and got pretty good at doing it with no training wheels, whoopee!

Mom celebrated her birthday with us today. We started off the day by letting her sleep in. I took Zach downstairs around 7:30 and didn't let him bug Mom until 8:30. She was pretty shocked/surprised/freaked out when she woke up that late. Good thing I didn't have school today. We went to Romper Room with some friends, out to lunch, picked up our cow from the butcher's and then made Mom's cake. She had a german chocolate cake this year, it was great! After dinner, Mom and I went to the gym -- she did body pump while I did the growing strong program there. We finished off the night with singing, cake and lots of birthday spankings. Mom got some flowers from Dad, wine from a friend, cards from lots of people and a beautiful card from me. Mom said she had a great day!

I am off school until Thursday for conferences/Veteran's Day break. I think we're going to the museum tomorrow.

Hope you enjoyed the nice weather this weekend like we did!

later!

Happy Halloweenie!

Can you believe this is my 500th post!?! Mom can't believe all the typing she's done over the years. I'm glad we still do this and hope someday we enjoy looking back at all the fun we've had.

We had a great time yesterday. We went to a neighbor's party yesterday afternoon. It was so much fun, there were games, cupcakes and a pinata! Zach and Dad broke it open on the last hit. Zach cried, but then when he realized there was candy inside, his tears dried right up. It was so neat to watch him really get into trick or treating this year. He was very stealthy about it -- if someone held the candy bowl out to him, he took as much as his little hands could grab. He probably got the most of anyone. It was a little chilly out, so we only went around a small part of our neighborhood before our hands were too cold to keep going. We enjoyed having our neighbors come out with us and join us for pizza afterwards. We didn't have very many customers at our house, so there is a lot of candy that needs to find a good home.

On Friday, Grandpa Miller and Betty stopped by and visited with us before they left for Florida. We were so grateful they made the time to stop and see us. Mom really wants to go to Florida sometime and see them.

Today will be a quiet day for us. Maybe some movies mixed in with football and with any luck we'll get outside to play for a bit.

Hope you had a spooktacular day!

Love,
Katherine
