Tickling the Ivories

This is the last song in my current performance book, it is called Orion the Hunter. I've actually been playing it for a month now with my teacher's permission. I play it all the time, seriously. Mom hears this song in her sleep. She hoped once it was assigned as a lesson, I would be done with it, but here we are a month later and I still play it every chance I get. So Mom figured she should record it and share my progress since last spring. One year of piano now and I'm on to my second set of books, hooray! Maybe there will be a new favorite song for me in there.

Spaghetti Kitty

This is so wrong, so very, very wrong. Never did Mom think she would condone an animal, much less a cat, eating from our plates. But Fluffy seems to be breaking a lot of rules around here lately. We won't mention the after-effects from her meal last night.

It's So Fluffy!

The unthinkable has happened and we have a pet! A cat, nonetheless! Dad was messing around on the farm and heard some crying from under the diesel tank. He found a little kitten who was abandoned by her mother. When we tried to put her with her mother, the mother attacked it. We're not sure why....could be from human touch, but it was heartbreaking. Especially since we knew at least 3 other kittens from the litter had already died from neglect. So Dad let us take her home. We've named her Fluffy, although we're not 100% certain she's a girl just yet. She's really, really good and sweet. She took a bottle the first couple days, but now she's eating from her dish AND using the litter box like a pro after just one day of accidents. She knows that Dad is the one to play rough with, Mom is the one to snuggle up to for food, I am the one she follows around loyally, and Zach...well, she goes near him but is very cautious, he is a little rough. Zach put her in a little pet-purse yesterday and she rode in the stroller with him to school. The plan is to return her to the farm when she is bigger, but that won't be until at least next spring, so I guess we're cat owners for now. Dad really has a fondness for her, she cuddles up in the front pocket of his hoodie and falls asleep every night, who knew! Too bad our house smells like cat now:(

So we did have an exciting weekend. We went to the farm and helped finish picking the last of the corn. Then Mom and us kids made a quick trip to WI to visit with Grandpa and Betty before they leave for FL on the 30th. It will be sad to see them go, but hopefully the winter goes fast and we'll see them soon.

School is going well, it sure is a lot of work though. I am done with soccer, so we're enjoying not running around for that anymore. Mom and Dad had their EIGHT year anniversary yesterday! We had a nice steak dinner, peanut butter cup cupcakes and we tried to be extra good for them. They're going to go out this weekend, just the two of them while Zach and I go to a friend's house.

Hope you're all enjoying this great fall weather, I can't wait for Halloween!

Love

Bad Little Blogger...

Sorry for my absence, I'm sure I was greatly missed. We just get so busy, the poor little blog gets more and more neglected. Maybe soon, I should take over the administration end and keep things up to snuff!

Everything's been chugging along nicely here. I had my last soccer match on Saturday. I decided to bust out my can of whoop-butt the last quarter and played like a superstar. I finally got the confidence I needed to dribble down the field and challenge some kids. Too bad we're all done, I just got on a roll. The combine broke (again), we had to miss my soccer weenie roast and head to the farm so Dad could help. I was pretty bummed, but they bribed me with fudge and I agreed to go. Good thing, because they really needed Dad's help and it was up and running by 5 o'clock. So we stuck around and picked some corn until late Sunday. We had fun playing with Ben Ben and eating Grandma's treats. I had today off thanks to Old Chris Columbus, so we did a little catching up at home, had a picnic, playdoh, etc.

School is going pretty well. I'm really coming along with reading and spelling, I'm acing nearly all my tests. Math is a little trickier for me. I'm up to about 80 out of 100 for my five minute timed addition tests and my first subtraction test was a 40. Once we get all 100 right in 5 min or less we get a candy bar. Yipdeedoo! I'm really enjoying Brownies as well and I wish the meetings were more than just twice a month.

Zach is doing great at preschool, he still loves it. He doesn't "remember" what he does there all day, but he comes home happy, so that makes us happy. His new favorite word to overuse is actually, just imagine an "actually" in front of every possible sentence and you'll see. It's very sassy.

We had a fun little trip to the Orchard with some friends last Friday. It's hard to get completely in the fall spirit with this warm weather, but we're not complaining! Hopefully we'll get in one more weekend of farming and then be ready for Halloween.

Ta ta for now, more to come later.
